Please welcome Pantelis – Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – Upper Limb – to MUMS. Pantelis works at University Hospitals Birmingham and runs his upper limb elective practice at Solihull Hospital. Mr Tsantanis is looking forward to starting his private practice at MUMS – offering:
Mr Pantelis offers private pain relief injections for shoulder and elbow joint pain at a convenient time for the patients. This is a one stop outpatient clinic where you can have both a consultation and pain relief injection for your joint pain, if it is clinically indicated.
These joint injections help with pain or stiffness in the joint and usually take effect within a few days improving quality of life and allowing you to pursue more of your usual activities.
Mr Tsantanis will focus on your upper limb problem and after listening to your history, he will discuss with you all the treatment options. Pain killing injections can be a reliable non-surgical treatment for shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist pain caused by arthritis, tenosynovitis, tendonitis, tennis or golfer’s elbow and nerve entrapments.
This service can be offered to Men or Women aged 50 years or over with a known diagnosis of osteoarthritis (“wear and tear” changes) of shoulder/elbow or in one of the above mentioned conditions.
PRP injections are an alternative and effective non-surgical treatment for tennis elbow. Mr Tsantanis will take a blood sample from your arm which will be processed in a machine called centrifuge for about 15 minutes. The very fast spin of the blood sample separates the liquid part of the blood called plasma from the other cells including platelets which are stimulating healing of the injected area. The whole procedure does not last longer than 30 minutes and you will be safely return home with just a simple dressing.
Up to 80% of patients will experience improvement of their pain and function over 3-6 months. The maximum effect may not be noticeable till 3 months after the injection though.
