Working at MUMS enables Miriam not only to work closely with a very experienced team but also to use Point of Care Ultrasound scanning to give a greater depth to her assessments or as a biofeedback tool.

Did you know that 1 in 3 women suffer with pelvic floor dysfunction and this can lead to many different conditions that can be improved with physiotherapy such as:

  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Urge incontinence
  • Urge/frequency and overactive bladder
  • Constipation
  • Bowel incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pain on intercourse
  • Pelvic pain

Ante-natal and post-natal Physiotherapy

Pregnancy puts additional strain on the body due to hormones, additional weight, and postural changes. These conditions can be improved with physiotherapy:

  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Pregnancy related back pain
  • Diastasis recti (separation of stomach muscles)
  • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree tears
  • Issues with C-section scars
  • Post- natal rehabilitation
  • Post-natal check-up (The Mummy MOT).

The Mummy MOTThe Mummy MOT at MUMS in Solihull

A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and C-section deliveries. It will assess how your posture; pelvic floor muscles and stomach muscles are recovering after childbirth. Miriam will provide you with gentle exercises and treatment to help with your recovery – and get you back on track with your fitness goals.

Specialist Physiotherapy

As a specialist Physiotherapist Miriam is fully trained and licensed to carry out a Mummy MOT®. Mums need to bend, squat and lift so we provide clinical postnatal care and functional exercises for our clients following birth (no matter how long ago).

What does a one-hour initial assessment include:

  • Full postural screen.
  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment.
  • Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation.
  • Screening for bladder, bowel, or sexual dysfunction.

What may be included in follow up:

  • Education and advice on safe activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy.
  • Bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind.
  • Written report on the findings of your assessment.

“I am so pleased to be able to offer The Mummy MOT at MUMS Solihull because I have seen first-hand how much it can help with the initial stages of recovery after having a baby. Having had two children of my own with a two-year gap between them I am very aware of the physical demands of being a mum. To be able to offer a service in which I can holistically assess new mums and support them in their journey back to fitness or just give them the confidence to be able to keep up with the daily routine of mum life makes a real difference. Whilst it is essential that babies receive a thorough post-natal check, mums often miss out, so we are here to make sure that is not the case.”
