Dr Rajib Pal (MBChB, FRCGP, FRCP, FACP, DRCOG, DCH, PGCME) - MUMS Private GP – offers private pain relief injections for knee and shoulder joint pain on Saturdays. This is a one stop shop on Saturdays at our state-of-the-art clinic – where you can have both a consultation and pain relief injection for your joint pain.
These joint injections help with pain/stiffness in the joint and usually take effect within a few days improving quality of life and allowing you to pursue more of your usual activities.
This service can be offered to Men or Women aged 50 years or over with a known diagnosis of osteoarthritis (“wear and tear” changes) of knee/shoulder ideally confirmed on imaging (e.g. X rays).
Pain relief injections are NOT suitable for patients with rheumatoid/inflammatory arthritis, joint replacements, history of septic arthritis, joint surgery/metalwork in joint, bleeding disorders, acute fracture, skin breakdown around the joint, known allergy or hypersensitivity to lidocaine/steroids, steroid injection within last 3 months
There is no referral necessary, and we do not have a waiting list.
The cost of this one stop pain relief clinic is as follows:
The appointment duration is 45 mins and includes consultation, assessment, suitability, history and clinical examination, an explanation about the procedure and what to expect. You will be counselled about the benefits, risks and potential side effects. You will be given the opportunity to ask as many questions as you wish.
The pain relief injection contains a local anaesthetic. You will provide consent for the injection.
Some analgesia (e.g. paracetamol or co-codamol) may be necessary for 2-3 days following the injection.
If for any reason – the injection does not go ahead then you will only pay for the £100 Consultation

Our high calibre, experienced GPs can offer these joint injections to improve your quality of life and activity levels by alleviating your symptoms (e.g. pain, stiffness) associated with “wear and tear” changes in your knees/shoulders due to degenerative joint conditions (e.g. osteoarthritis). There are no waiting lists.
The underlying symptoms are treated so that pain relief is obtained allowing you to pursue more of your usual activities. The effect lasts for approximately three months.
Most injections are quick and easy to perform. Loose-fitting clothes may be more comfortable if you’re going for a steroid injection.
