Ear, Nose and Throat Consultants at MUMS

Miss Emma Hoskison is a highly experienced Specialist Consultants in Ear, Nose and Throat ( ENT ) Both assess and treat adults and children at MUMS.

At MUMS - Our Specialist ENT Consultants see, diagnose, and treat the following conditions:

Tongue Tie

A tongue tie in a new-born baby is often picked up by doctors and midwives shortly after birth.  It interferes with tongue mobility, and in certain circumstances, a baby's tongue tie can make feeding difficult.

Ear Microsuction

Ear wax is removed with a microscope and suction by our ENT Consultants.

Nasal Cautery

This procedure is carried out by one of our ENT Consultants to stop or prevent nosebleeds.

Nasal Endoscopy

MUMS ENT Consultants perform Nasal Endoscopy to visualise the sinus and nasal passages using MUMS state of the art flexible, thin endoscope which has a tiny camera and light.

Nasal Bone Manipulation

MUMS ENT Consultants offer a nose bone manipulation to re-align the broken bones to allow them to heal in as straight a position as possible. Nose bones take several weeks to heal, so we try to do this one to three weeks after the injury.

Nasal polyps

These tiny tissue growths, which develop inside the sinuses and nasal passages, can impair a person's ability to breathe, taste or smell, and create a runny nose. Our ENT specialists see and treat these.

Facial discomfort

Our ENT consultants can identify the cause of facial pain and headaches and offer treatments.

Dizziness and vertigo

There are several distinct conditions that can lead to dizziness and vertigo, including dehydration and low blood pressure. Some ear issues, like infections, Meniere's disease, vestibular migraines, Labyrinthitis, and BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), can also make people feel lightheaded or queasy.

Nasal discharge and blockages

Numerous conditions, including allergies, nasal polyps, and rhinitis can cause obstructions of the nasal passageways and can cause excessive or chronic nasal discharge.

Watering from the eyes

Numerous conditions frequently lead to eye watering. Even if not all diseases necessitate medical attention, endoscopic surgery may be offered if a blocked tear duct is the cause of watering eyes.

Tinnitus

Often to referred to as “ringing in the ears” – is Tinnitus. There are several reasons why tinnitus occurs, from earwax build-up to ear infections. Our ear, nose, and throat specialists can identify the underlying source of the issue and suggest different treatments.

Ear discharge

Ear discharge that appears suddenly or lasts for a long time must be investigated and treated.

Recurrent sore throat

Recurrent sore throats may be brought on by allergies, acid reflux, or bacterial infections. The proper diagnosis and course of treatment can be determined with the assistance of an ENT Consultant.

Change in voice

If you think your voice has changed, you should have this investigated. By doing this, a diagnosis can be made, and the appropriate medical attention applied.

Lumps and Growths

Making an appointment with an ear, nose, and throat specialist is in your best interest if you've detected a new lump developing in your throat or neck.

Swallowing difficulties

This is often referred to as dysphagia and can be caused by mouth, throat, or gullet problems. Our ENT consultants can investigate and diagnose and ensure your treatment pathway is right for you.

Why Are Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) check-ups important?

Check-ups are essential for the assessment and diagnosis of any ear, nose, or throat issues. Check-ups for the ears, nose, and throat also make sure that any underlying breathing or sleeping problems can be corrected.

Having an ear, nose or throat problem inevitably affects the quality of your life and daily work life balance.

Extended NHS waiting times mean that few people secure a timely consultation for conditions such as tinnitus, hearing loss, breathing problems, head, and neck issues. This can be frustrating and cause anxiety. For this reason – MUMS prides itself on each access to specialist consultations to avoid the wait
