EMSELLA - Urinary and Stress Incontinence Treatment

MUMS offer Emsella Treatment for urinary and stress incontinence. Consultant Gynaecologists - Miss Poonam Pradhan and Miss Natalie Woodhead, Private GP – Dr Nimah Bholah and Miss Miriam Greene, Specialist Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist - offer consultations and advice about the benefits of Emsella for pelvic floor strengthening.

The consultation is approx. 20 mins and includes:

• History of urinary incontinence
• Examination
• What to expect from the treatment

Emsella Consultations cost £100

Emsella Treatment Sessions cost £80 per session

We recommend 6 sessions – twice a week for 3 weeks. The first 3 sessions are at a lower setting – increasing to the higher setting for the final 3 sessions. Each session is 30 minutes.

Over the years, MUMS clinicians have seen women suffering in silence who have had very little help from gynaecologists. These include postnatal and postmenopausal women with some of the following symptoms:

• Mild urinary stress incontinence/frequency and urgency (desire to wee).
• Mild vaginal looseness/laxity/prolapse.
• Vaginal dryness giving rise to pain during sexual intercourse.
• Problems with sexual intercourse/dryness.
• Decreased sexual satisfaction (studies show that it improves libido/sexual function)

Unfortunately, traditional prolapse repair has high recurrence rate for whom there seems to be little gynaecologists can do apart from repeat surgery.

MUMS non-surgical, non-invasive Emsella treatment for incontinence, stress incontinence, urinary incontinence is effective. It strengthens a weakened pelvic floor by sending electro-magnetic waves that cause contractions within the pelvic floor muscles. This comfortable private physio treatment means you can sit on the chair and re-train your pelvic floor muscles without any effort whilst it stimulates and restores your pelvic floor. The result is much improved bladder control. Consultants recommend this to avoid surgery.

Emsella is not a treatment for vaginal dryness and pelvic pain. Emsella works well for ladies with urinary incontinence and mild prolapse. Emsella is not a cure, and the effects are variable. It is important to hydrate before and after treatment. Emsella does not cause harm and helps many patients with mild or moderate symptoms. At MUMS we have found that approximately 70% of patients report that it works for them. Those patients that combine Emsella with pelvic physiotherapy get the best results.

For patients with a prolapse – Emsella is unlikely to help. Emsella is licensed for stress incontinence. It has been reported to help with urgency too. Those patients with a copper coil should not have the treatment.

This treatment that takes place – fully clothed – whilst sat on a chair is revolutionary.

Treatment cannot take place when you are menstruating.
