Enquiries can be made by phone, email, website enquiry. A member of the team at MUMS will respond to your enquiry and may ask for further fact-finding information to ensure that this assessment will be appropriate to commence.

Pre-Assessment Stage

You will be asked to return a completed screening questionnaire - The Sensory Responsiveness Scale 2nd Edition (SRS-2).  This form is to be completed by the parent/guardian/carer and the child’s nursery/playgroup/school setting. The NICE guidelines indicate it is good practice for information to be gathered regarding the child/young person’s needs from more than one setting.

These questionnaires will need to be returned prior to an appointment being arranged. If your child is not attending a nursery/educational setting, please let us know, so that we can ensure to plan the assessment without the SRS-2 completed by a setting.

If in the rare event that following review of the SRS-2 form – it is deemed inappropriate to schedule an assessment – you will be notified. If appropriate, we will proceed with the following stages of the assessment process.

It is at this stage we ask you to pay 50% of the assessment process fee - £850 and organise the ADOS Assessment.

Paediatric Assessment – ADI-R

An appointment will be arranged for a Comprehensive developmental assessment which utilises the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). This will be a virtual appointment with Dr Deepak Parasuraman, Consultant Paediatrician.  This will be completed with the child/young person’s caregiver and will not usually require the child to be present.  This session will take approximately 1 hour 30 mins – 2 hours, depending on the complexity of information discussed.

Following the Paediatric ADI-R Assessment Stage we organise the Occupational Therapist Assessment and ask you for the remaining balance of £850 for the next 3 stages.

OT (Occupational Therapist) Assessment – ADOS

ADOS – (Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule) is an assessment pathway – structured to assist clinicians in their observation and diagnosis of ASD.

A face-to-face appointment is arranged with Claire Howell at MUMS Solihull for a direct assessment appointment with the child/young person, using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and clinical observations will be completed.  This session takes approximately 1 hour 30 mins. Observation of your child interacting enables Claire to assess certain aspects of your child’s behaviour using special assessment tools.

For some preschool children, depending on age and stages of developmental needs, this assessment session may be completed as an observational session within the child’s setting. This will be discussed and agreed with family when the screening information is reviewed prior to assessment.

Final Paediatric Assessment

A face-to-face medical review consultation is arranged with Dr Deepak Parasuraman which lasts approximately 45 mins with the child/young person and their parent(s)/carer.
