Protection from Hepatitis A and B virus which causes liver failure is important. As with all vaccinations, 100% immunity is not guaranteed but it is wise to immunise. The vaccine causes your own body to produce antibodies against the disease. Hepatitis is spread through infected water and food and close contact with those infected. It is spread by body fluid contact, needle sharing and from mother to child.

Protection is required often for those at risk, those travelling to countries where the disease is present, social behaviours and some jobs. Males who have same sex partners need protection and those using illegal injection drugs. Lab workers are at risk and those with chronic liver disease.

The "Hepatitis A & B combination" immunisation series consists of three shots. It takes six months to complete the entire course.

The doses are administered one month apart – with the 3rd dose being 5 months after the 2nd dose.

We can also test for hepatitis B immunity.

We offer immunity tests to determine your level of immunity.

After finishing the entire course, you will have protection from hepatitis A for 25 years and B for 5 years.

After your immunity wears off, you could need a booster if you're still susceptible to either disease.
