MUMS Consultant Paediatrician, Dr Vijay Iyer vaccinates babies from 8 weeks to 24 weeks to protect your baby from Rotavirus.
Rotavirus is common and causes diarrhoea and vomiting. Babies are normally vaccinated at 8 weeks and 12 weeks. Diarrhoea and vomiting can cause your baby to be dehydrated. Rotavirus is easily spread and so private vaccination at MUMS can prevent your baby from getting infected.
The NHS give 2 doses at 8 and 12 weeks. If the first dose is missed your baby can have it up to 15 weeks and if the second dose is missed, then this can be given up to 24 weeks.
Rotavirus is not given if your baby has a temperature or diarrhoea and vomiting.
If your baby has not been vaccinated against rotavirus you can have your baby vaccinated at MUMS privately.
Private Rotavirus Vaccination at MUMS is not an injection. It is a liquid that Dr Vijay squirts into your baby’s mouth. As with all vaccinations, 100% immunity is not guaranteed. We ask parents to keep hand washing regular as there is a risk that your baby’s pool contains a weakened version of rotavirus.
It is fine to have rotavirus vaccine at the same time as other vaccinations.
