Fin and Shellfish Allergy testing at MUMS

Having an Allergy Test to see if you have a particular food allergy/sensitivity/intolerance at MUMS Solihull is easy. We offer simple blood tests but combine a number of different foods together to make a profile to give you a bigger picture of what type of food you may be allergic to or intolerant of.

You may choose to have this test within a GP Consultation to discuss your history and symptoms.

The Consultation with our experienced GPs is £100.00. The GP will perform the allergy blood test and explain the results to you.

You may choose to have a simple £30.00 Phlebotomy appointment in which to be tested with FIN and Shellfish Allergy Test.  However – if the results are showing abnormalities then you will need a  GP consultation to have the results explained to you.

For children under 16 years old you will need to book in with our specialist consultant paediatrician for a consultation and allergy testing. The cost of a consultation with the paediatrician is £235.00 plus the cost of the test.

Fin and Shellfish Allergy Test costs £225.00

The Fin and Shellfish Allergy Test includes common allergens such as :

• Cod
• Prawn
• Shrimp
• Salmon
• Scallop
• Squid
• Tuna

Results are back in 2 days.

You may wish to know if you are intolerant or allergic to any of the above.

You may have recently eaten one or some of the above fish or shellfish and have had a reaction to the protein contained in marine animals. Allergic reactions to seafood manifest in symptoms such as mouth tingling, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, chest tightening, facial swelling.

Fish allergies often do not present until adult life. At MUMS our Private GPs can perform the above blood test cluster to determine whether you are allergic to seafood or not. We can also help you determine whether it is fish or shellfish that you are allergic to.

You may not know what you are allergic to and want to find out to avoid any of the above.

A lot of people have a reaction to certain food types. For example, digestive problems such as abdominal pain and bloating or skin problems such as rashes and hives. There is a difference between intolerance and allergies but they are both unpleasant. It is best to jot down what you have eaten and so when you have a reaction you have a better chance of pinning down what it might be. If you have a strong reaction you should seek medical advice. At MUMS – our Private GPs consult with you and take a full history and examination and help you manage your allergies and intolerances by eliminating what it is your body does not like.

If you suffer from bloating or abdominal pain or diarrhoea following certain foods or you have skin sensitivities and develop itching or rashes or hives – although these can be caused by other factors such as stress and IBS – they could be due to some of the foods listed above that you should avoid.

MUMS experience of providing allergy testing has enabled us to group common allergen tests together.

This Fin and Shellfish combination test contains a wide range of different types of foods to give our GPs and you a good idea as to what it is that is causing your allergic symptoms or your intolerance of.

Our allergy component testing may be a better option for you than our single allergy tests.
