Prolactin Blood Testing

Prolactin is a hormone made by the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain. Prolactin causes the breasts to grow and make milk during pregnancy and after birth. Prolactin levels are normally high for pregnant women and new mothers. Levels are normally low for non-pregnant women and for men.

A prolactin levels test is most often used to diagnose a prolactinoma (a type of tumor of the pituitary gland)

Having a prolactin test also helps find the cause of a woman's menstrual irregularities and/or infertility.

Having a prolactin helps find the cause of a man's low sex drive and/or erectile dysfunction.

At MUMS we offer Prolactin tests which cost £100.00. You can have this test with one of our HCAs which costs £30.00 or within a Private GP Consultation which costs £100.00 or within a £225.00 Specialist Consultant appointment.

There are no waiting times for this test and the turnaround time is 24 hours.

If you opt for a consultation in which to have the test then you will be followed up with a telephone consultation to have the results explained to you.

If you opt for a HCA appointment in which to have the test – then you will need to book a consultation to have the results of the test explained to you.
