Musculoskeletal ( MSK) Hand & Wrist Ultrasound Scan

MUMS Radiographer – Mr Adrian Burman offers MSK Hand & Wrist Ultrasound Scans to patients aged 16 and over.

An MSK Hand and Wrist scan will assess the major and some minor tendons, ligaments and nerves around the hand and wrist, whether it be related to pain and/or reduced movement from sports injuries, old age or general health conditions such as rheumatology and arthritis.

MSK Scans of the hand and wrist require specialist sonographers who are completely familiar with the complex soft tissue and adjoining components. Interrogation of this area with ultrasound require excellent knowledge of the tendons, nerves and joint structures. MUMS use the very best image resolution for these MSK ultrasound scans to visualise the dorsal extensor compartments, the distal radioulnar joints and the flexor tendons. Carpal tunnel and median nerve are scanned as is the hand joints for synovitis.

Ultrasound of the hand and wrist will show any soft tissue masses and differentiate between a cyst and mass.

There is no need for a referral – you can self-refer for peace of mind.

There is no preparation for a MSK Hand and Wrist Ultrasound Scan.

Gel is used to glide the transducer for images and measurements of the Hand and Wrist area by the Radiographer.
