The result will tell you whether you have immunity to Hepatitis B Virus.
Many people have a Hepatitis B Immunity blood test privately to understand their immunity levels following Hepatitis B Vaccination.
A private Hepatitis B Immunity test at MUMS is a simple blood test. We send the sample to our partner laboratory who send us your Hepatitis B Immunity result electronically.
Hepatitis B testing is a quantitative test that looks at your individual immunity levels against the Hepatitis B Virus.
If your Hepatitis B Immunity test is positive, it means that your vaccination has worked, or you are immune naturally from a previous infection. It means you are protected against Hepatitis B.
If your Hepatitis B Immunity test – which we measure in titres – is low or negative, then you can have a course of Hepatitis B Injections at MUMS and re-test your immunity levels. You may only need a booster vaccine – dependent upon the quantitive result we receive for you. A negative result means that you do not have the antibodies needed for immunity to Hepatitis B.
We recommend waiting between 4-16 weeks following immunisation to see if you are immune.
You do not need to prepare to have a Hepatitis B Immunity Test.
Hepatitis B can be caught from infected blood and bodily fluids. If you have a needle stick injury or have tattoos and piercings, you will want to check your immunity. There are factors that can deter people from ever being immune to hepatitis B – despite vaccination – such as age and obesity. Smoking can lower people’s response to Hep B Vaccination.
Your new employer may want evidence of Hepatitis B Immunity. This can be difficult to obtain in the NHS. Having a Private Hepatitis B immunity test is a good option for speedy testing and rapid results.
The Hepatitis B virus can survive outside of the body for 7 days and remain infective.
Men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs and those infected with HIV – are susceptible to the Hepatitis B virus.
The Hepatitis B Immunity Test is not a Hepatitis B test to see if you have Hepatitis B – it merely to see if you are immune to the virus or not.
